Born in Donostia/San Sebastián in 1976, Urko Gurmendi has a PhD in Material Science from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), along with an E-MBA from Mondragón University. His career has always been linked to innovation, as he started out at Tecnalia Research and Innovation, where he spent five years as a project manager mainly for the automotive and aeronautics sectors. He went on to work at Ik4-Lortek as head of the laser processes and additive manufacturing area, where he worked as a project coordinator. He is currently working as an innovation engineer at Cikautxo S. Coop where he was mainly in charge of R&D in the field of plastic materials.
